According to per Christiensen, the clouded leopard is anatomically very similar to the primitive saber-toothed cats such as Dinofelis or Metailurus, and may become trully specialized saber-tooth someday. This is the clouded leopard of the future(saber-toothed panther), having longer canines, stockier front legs, bigger paws and shorter tail.
Nice illustration. I've also thought about this before but I've felt that clouded leopards won't get to far in the future, and are likely dead-ends thanks to mankind.
you may be right, all big cats especially tigers, snow leopards and CL are critically endangered. I cant imagine the world without such spectacular predators but the cl is said to be already very much like some of machairodonts with having short compact front legs & propotionally very long canines. thank you for the comment
may be when i retire from the work^-^(kidding). fortunately, i have many favorite ancient ungulates so, that would be challenging & fun. But for now, i must be sufficiently satisfying with my felids drawings( i dunno when that would be). thx
Excellent artwork! And great idea to draw a cat of the futere. let's hope the clouded leopard survives that long.. It would be nice if you could write which books or articles you got your information from. Keep up the good work!

but i'll rather stick to felids (and may be proboscideans) for now because you're the present master in the art of ungulates, lol
